All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in this workshop on all things Appliantological.
We have a special session planned for this one. Instead of the usual Show 'n Tell on a technical topic, we're going to post tech sheets in the comments to this Calendar Event (scroll down to see what's posted so far) and ask specific questions that can only be answered by reading the tech sheet. If you at least try to answer the questions beforehand, you'll get a lot more out of it. The tech sheet and the questions are posted in the comments section below.
Your mission, if you should choose to accept it, is to check out the questions for each one and try to answer them ahead of time. Then come to the Dojo to see how well you did!
Who: This workshop is only available to tech members at Appliantology.
When: Saturday, April 27 @10:00 AM Eastern Time.
      Where: Online via Zoom
      How:

Maytag Fridge MRT118FFFH00 Thermistor interchangeability?

Hi,

My fridge is only 3.5 years old and has been making the food frozen.  We bought a new door seal, but, that doesnt seem to work.  Guessing it is the thermistor.

Seems that the manufacturer is not making this part anymore (for now due to the pandemic) and when I order it online after paying for it, I get a 'Cancellation' - part not in inventory - "No ETA".  I went thru several websites and called the local parts store to no avail.

I saw a few thermistors with different part names (obviously they are for different models).  Since the ones I found that are available have the same clip and made for the same manufacturer (Whirlpool/Maytag), can I purchase one that fits and swap it out?

Or can I order one with the same specs and solder/splice it into my existing connector?

I am worried that my compressor will eventually 'burn out' because it runs more.  I have to manually shut off the fridge to keep the food from freezing up and turn it on again after it thaws out.

Help!!!

Thanks,

Dave

Using your model number come up with wpw10384183 as the thermistor. It is thermistor with a connector plug. Appliancepartspros, repair clinic and reliable parts all show in stock. The tech sheet doesn't show any resistance valves to make comparisons. There is post here about using the spec sheet for a w10280385 to measure resistance valves.

Thank you Vance - the part number you found is correct.  The problem I found is that the Whirlpool website shows 2 different Thermistors (the one I found - W10838965 & the one you found - w10384183).  Is it possible that this fridge uses two thermistors?  Thank you

Just went on the same fridge today for the same problem- freezing the fridge section.

Seems this guy also has the same problem-

So that makes 3 of us.  All on units just a few years old.  Has to be a design issue.

Make that 4 anyone know if the thermistor worked?  The measurements seemed correct I am leaning toward the control .
