[Workshop] Troubleshooting FlowSense problems in LG gas & electric dryers

Son of Samurai
Tech Training

Master Samurai Tech is an appliance repair school that provides online technical courses for both rookies and veterans of the trade. There's a lot going on at MST, so any prospective or returning students are invited to take a tour of it with us.

In this workshop, we're going to understand how the mysterious FlowSense™ feature in LG gas and electric dryers functions... and malfunctions. We'll look at what FlowSense™ is actually sensing (hint: it ain't air flow!) and how to troubleshoot problems with it. We'll also look at how the gas ignition system in LG FlowSense™ dryers differs from the more common split coil ignition system. Even if you don't work on many of these dryers, the schematic reading and troubleshooting skills you'll learn will be useful in troubleshooting any other appliance repair problem.

Who: You! This FREE workshop is open to all appliance techs.

When: Sunday, March 28th @7:00 PM Eastern Time.

Where: Online via Zoom

How:

  1. Click here to register and get the online connection details via email.
  2. Arrive early to make sure your connection is working and that you get a spot. Space is limited! The webinar is usually open 15 minutes prior to start time.

Would an out of spec blower thermistor or a lint covered one cause the FlowSense error by opening hi limit early, if actual airflow is good?

Good question! Definitely could if the main cycle temperature control device (whether cycling thermostat or thermistor) were covered in lint and insulated from sensing the actual blower temperature. In this condition, they would not be providing precise temperature regulation and so the burner would continue to heat until the hi limit opened.

I Ran across that same issue earlier this week with my neighbor's dryer.  Complaint was that the clothes were not drying completely or taking too long to  dry.  Opened the back and everything was covered with lint.  Clean it up and everything is back to working normal.
