[Webinar] Appliantology Live Dojo

Son of Samurai
Tech Training

All Appliantology tech members are invited to join in the conversation for all things Appliantological: bidness, customers, tools, troubleshooting, flavorite brewski, whatever. Webcams and microphones are open and live!

This event is also a great time for any students at Master Samurai Tech to bring any and all questions about the coursework. We're happy to walk through any concepts you're having trouble with. Think of it like office hours with your teachers.

If you have a specific appliance problem you'd like us to talk about, post it here in the calendar entry. We need a problem statement and a PDF of the tech sheet or schematic so we can all see it on screen share. If you have a PDF that isn't already in the File library here at Appliantology, send it to us by attaching it to the contact form

Also, follow this Calendar Event so you'll get notified of new posts here. Look for the "Follow" button either at the top of the topic on desktop or below the topic on mobile.

Who: This webinar is only available to tech members at Appliantology.

When: Sunday October 16 @4:00 PM Eastern Time.

Where: Online via Zoom

Any specific appliance troubleshooting topics you'd like to discuss, please post them here. If it's pertaining to a particular model number, please post the model number and a link to the tech sheet in the Downloads section so I can have it loaded on my iPad to share on the screen. Thanks!

I have a question about a relay on a Thor gas range.

model number LRG3001U

The question is what is the purpose of the relay? I am thinking they are only using the coil for resistance. I know during the classes , we saw some examples of this. I think one was a dryer timer.

Can we discuss a more in depth diagnosis of a sealed system problem, without actually attaching gauges? I know about the frost pattern having to be consistant, iced up evaporator being more of a defrost problem than an sealed system problem, warm air intrusion causing rime ice, temperature of condenser coil having to be room temp + 30F under normal conditions. Sometimes it's clear the sealed system is not working, other times it seems like it's working, but poorly. What makes me unsure is when the frost pattern is consistant but weak, some compressors running lower than the 1A, even when they're fine and the condenser being just a bit more or less than the 30 degrees over room temperature in some spots. Maybe for some reason the compressor is being tuned off early causing some of these symptoms. How would I know without sitting there for hours watching it? If a cold control is misreding the temperature or the jazz board isn't reading the thermistor just right, the fridge may have a light frost pattern or a cooler condenser. These borderline symptoms force me having to guess instead of knowing for sure by testing. Can we discuss a surer way to diagnose a sealed system without gauges, when the symptoms are close to normal? And I'm still not clear on whether the iceball is a sealed system problem or not.
