  1. I just bought a new Kenmore 46-61212 top freezer refrigerator. I'm told it is made by Daewoo. I turned it on in the store and all i could hear was low level fan noise, much quieter then my old Whirlpool though i can't confirm the compressor was on at the time. When i got it home, the fan noise on my unit was very reasonable but the compressor (Embarco EM3D60HLT) made an unusual whining noise. After several hours of use the whining noise went away and now I'm left with what I'd call a typical compressor type sound but its quite noticeable and more objectionable then the fan sound. With the old Whirlpool which also has an Embarco compressor you couldn't tell the compressor was on unless you went right next to it behind the fridge. Is there something wrong with my compressor? How can I find out? Do they vary this much from one unit to the next of the same model?
