I have this whirlpool washer disguised as a Kenmore that vibrates excessively. With the lid open, no cloths, and a full tub of water you can see that the top of the agitator turns fairly true and the machine is fine until it reaches the high speed spin. At that point the tub shifts slightly off center, it moves toward the 2 o’clock position , and it begins to shake. This vibration is worse when there are clothes in the tub.
I disassembled the machine to see if I could find an obvious problem. The only thing that struck me as bad was the inner tub was difficult to remove. I had to take out the motor and gear box so I could remove the tub assembly along with the tub support. Once I had the tubs out I could separate the inner and outer tub. The tub support shaft had rusted a bit making the removal of the inner tub difficult. All the tub support rub blocks and the 4 springs were in place. The main drive shaft was in good condition and did not have any noticeable play while mounted. I went ahead and ordered a drive block, and the 6 phenolic rub blocks. These items did not seem worn but I really could not see what other components might be bad.
My question to the forum is what usually causes this vibration? Can the springs get worn?
Thank you for your support
