LG LFCS22520S /04 Refrigerator Freezer Leaking & Frost

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi all - As of last month or so, my LG refrigerator that I purchased in 2020 has been having random puddles appear underneath the freezer. Upon inspection, the inside of the freezer also has been having deposits of snow-like frost that keep reappearing after I get rid of them, as well as what appears to be a layer of ice on the interior bottom of the freezer. The gasket surrounding the freezer seems to be fine, but maybe I'm missing something.

Was hoping I could get some guidance here on diagnosing and repairing the issues described. Thanks in advance!

When you get that frost it's a definite sign of warm air getting in.  It's possible the ice on the freezer floor is preventing it from closing properly along the bottom.  I would start with clearing whatever is blocking the defrost drain.

Hi Robin,

Is the defrost drain located in the main refrigerator section behind the back paneling or somewhere else?

I was able to find this video, which I think may be comparable to what I am experiencing:

It's behind the rear panel in the freezer section.  When I go to a job like this the tools I use to clear a drain are a portable steamer and a trombone cleaner.  It's a pain to get to it but simple once you get that evaporator cover removed.

Melt any ice in the drip tray under the evaporator with a steamer or by letting it defrost unplugged and left open for 24 hours, never use a hair dryer or heat gun, they can warp or melt the liner.  There's a hole at the low point of that tray, snake it out with a trombone cleaner after removing the rear panel and removing the drain tube (clean that up too)
