Compressor pulls higher amps on test cord?

Nothing special about pumping refrigerant. Compressors are just pumps that pump vapor. The capacitor size has to do with how they want to use the two windings in a split phase motor.

The speed taps would be for different run windings, like with any split phase motor. The old skool way of selecting different speed windings was with either a user-selectable speed switches or by timer switches. The new skool way is by microprocessor and user touchpad.
