GSD2230Z01WW - older GE Potscrubber diswasher not filling or draining

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I try to be a DIY'er when possible.

PROBLEM: Once started, the timer on this dishwasher progresses around normally until cycle completion. However, since the tub won't fill with water, it runs but water just dribbles out of its ports and it of course won't spin due to the low water pressure. Whereas when I fill the tub manually (to just below the heating element) the arm spins and sprays very well. But the filled tub refuses to drain at any point in the cycle. To get it to drain, I have to manually pull the drain flapper down. When I do this, I can feel and hear a click from the drain assembly at which time the flapper remains open (down position) until the tub is fully drained and then it springs back closed again by itself. So, as the subject title says, this dishwasher won't fill or drain on its own.

What I have tried/checked so far:

  • I've replaced the timer - it changed nothing
  • I've checked and cleaned the float assembly and tested its switch - it has free travel and the switch clicks when it's raised and it has electrical continuity when it should
  • I've checked continuity on both the drain solenoid and the inlet valve - the values for both are within spec

When I fill the tub with water and run a cycle, as the timer slowly rotates no rinse state or drain state ever occurs. The arm just rotates and sprays through the entire cycle until the timer hits the off position. If closed, the detergent cup releases and opens at the correct time... but that's a mechanical cam lobe mechanism so it has nothing to do with the problem.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
