Kenmore 790.49443410 wall oven power loss

Recommended Posts

Subject double wall oven (which I believe is a Frigidaire) randomly loses power, sometimes momentarily for a second, shutting off the ovens and resetting the clock, occasionally losing power completely for some time before coming back on.  30 minutes of that this evening.  Circuit breaker is fine, no obvious power surge or anything as no other appliances, lights etc are affected.  It does seem to happen mostly or perhaps only when one or both of the ovens are on.
Any thoughts?  Thanks,

jeff

You confirmed that the voltage at the terminal block is 240?

120vac on L1 with respect to neutral then 120vac on L2 with respect to neutral .  Incorrect voltage can cause numerous problems and strange symptom's .

check your cooling fans and make sure they are working properly , if not the unit may be getting to hot and shutting down. check for a thermal fuse and make sure it is working properly.

Thanks for the suggestions Daniel.  Fans are OK but unsure where to find the terminal block or thermal fuse.  Had one of those trip on a GE when both were set to clean mode at the same time, but haven’t had any luck finding good diagrams/manuals for this oven.  Any thoughts on where to find?

There is a seperate high limit for each oven so if they're both going out and coming back, it's not the high limit.

The terminal block is on the rear of the lower oven near the bottom. Look for burned up or loose wires. If not, follow them up to the control panel and check for burned/loose wires or burned relay board.

Finally getting around to looking at this.  A bit stumped as to how to check the terminal block or the wires going up to the control panel.  Seems inaccessible?  Assume it’s here where the conduit from the electrical box goes?  Is my next step to pull this whole darn thing out of the wall?

Pretty much. Besides access to the junction box, there's wiring that's only accessible from the back panel or the top rear.

The good part is that you probably don't need a lot of special equipment. Since it's a double wall oven, it should be about the right height to lean on one of these if you have one or can get one. You can pull it out of the cabinet, leave a few inches still inside the cabinet and rest the front on the stepstool. Or if you buy two you can pull the whole thing out and rest it on a pair of them. When you reinstall it, just tilt it forward a little and slit it back in the hole.

Ok I got it out pulled the back and top covers.   Checked the voltages, 119 and 118.4.  All the wiring looks fine.

There’s a relay board and a controller.  Must be a problem with one of them?
