I have a Whirlpool refrigerator (WRT311FZDW01) that is not staying cool.  The fridge temp is 55 deg and Freezer 2 deg.  If I shut the refrigerator off for 24 hrs and then powering it back on.  This will get the fridge temp down to 38 deg, where it stays for 2-3 days. However, it gradually increases temperature in the subsequent days.  freezer seems to be okay and staying cool enough.  Not sure if there is something wrong with the compressor or another part.  Appreciate any insight into what this problem could be.  Thanks.

From what you've described it sound's like you have a defrost issue. When the evaporator is completely frosted over , the evaporator fan cannot properly push air through the coil's, through the air baffle and into the fresh food section of the refrigerator. Check to make sure the fan is running . Unplugging it will help for a few day's but it's going to freeze over again. Your gonna want to take the back evaporator cover off in the freezer and look at the evaporator and see if it's frozen over (Do this when it isn't working properly , during the time the unit is at 55 degrees in the fresh food compartment) Your gonna want to test the defrost heater for continuity (i would rather check the amperage if you can force it into defrost, and test the bimetal for continuity (Your gonna want to do it still attached to the evaporator that is frosted over. also check the top of the evaporator and make sure it isn't puffed up or broken.  If both check out good, use your meter to check for voltage coming to the heater, if no voltage your going to need a timer/pcb control
