During the transition to spin cycle as it appeared the belt was slipping causing burning smell presumably due the trans, motor or drain pump locked up

1. i removed belt; motor and drain pump rotate freely.

2. i can turn the agitator inside drum both CW and CCW maybe 45 degrees before it stops hard

however if i turn the pulley under washer CW and CCW it turns agitator freely.

can one isolate the culprit from this description?

thx much

Sound's like you have a bad transmission (Gear case) that's locked up
