Why does my gas oven broiler glow-plug igniter glowing randomly even when turned off?

GE gas oven. I noticed that the broiler glow-plug (igniter) is glowing randomly even when the oven broiler is turned off. It will glow for a while and then turn off on it's own. What could be causing it? Any fix?

You are not baking or broiling? Oven is completely off and it does this?

@monkey1 You haven''t supplied a model number but if this is a GE with the broiler below the main oven, (Same burner used for bake), and being this is a GE - I've seen a particular style of oven t-stat that some of these GE's use get really flaky and when in the off position the points will close and the oven will turn on for a few seconds or minutes every few minutes.

@Budget Appliance Repair > I think the model number is in the back which I cannot see. I don't want to pull the unit out. I'll try to check the oven door if it has a model #. The unit is 22 years old.

It can not be fixed without the model number.

That’s how you identify the proper replacement parts.

It won't be on the back - most all appliance you can find the model number on the front somewhere - some Whirlpool and Maytag ranges have a metal plate screwed to the top middle screw of the back control console that you can flip up to see.

Most GE model numbers for ranges are on the body of the range behind the broiler drawer, (the problem is they use a mylar type plastic sticker and all the numbers wear off and you can't read them).

There's a few g.e. ranges with the model on a metal tag on back that can be flipped up. Usually dual fuel and double ovens. But not that old.

I just need a diagnostic and know what may be causing this issue. Can this be done without the exact model number? Thanks.

oven t-stat

Most likely this,  part may not still be available, won’t know for sure until you find the model number

Found the model number. GE XL44. If it is a bad thermostat, what would be the replacement part number? BTW, since the thermostat is a simple bi-metallic (sometimes ceramic) passive component, can it be repaired or fixed by cleaning it thoroughly?

That's not a model number.

We would need the actual model number off the model and serial number tag.

Sorry, none of the individual components are repairable.

If you can't get the correct actual model number, (the tag is not readable anymore), then you will have to pull the oven t-stat and get the part# off the actual part.

Most oven t-stats have the part number on them and you can look up that number to get a new one.

As Terry said - no repairable part in the t-stat, (you are very over simplifying your concept of the t-stat being a simple clean to fix).

Take a picture of the whole front of the oven then screenshot and upload it. I might be able to guess the model number is it's made after 2004. It's a long shot but if it's a model my old employer sold a lot of I'll try.
