FAULT CODE "LE" AND GRINDING NOISE ON LG WM2501HVA - HALL SENSOR ??

I have an LG front load washer MODEL: WM2501HVA that has developed a loud grinding noise and will not spin.  Started out just with noise on a load one day.  Unplugged, turned back on and seemed to be better.  It would go through a whole cycle and either had no noise or very little.  Today it stopped and threw a code "LE".  Tried to just get it to go into spin only to get rid of water and get clothes out.  No dice.  Tries to go into spin but makes a ratcheting/grinding noise, and will never get up to any speed.  Removed back cover and also removed the rotor.  Splines did not look stripped out but there does seem to be a little play.  Could this cause the problem or do I need to dig deeper??   Thanks.

Most likely a bad RPS (Rotor Position Sensor) and/or the short wiring harness between the sensor and the main harness.

I agree that it is the RPS or hall sensor.  Problem is LG only manufactures the replacement number which is 6501KW2002B.  It is supposed to replace the original number 6501KW2002A, problem is it does not fit.  The height of the switches is different so you cannot mount the "B" number on a stator that came with an "A".  Only solution looks like you have to replace the stator as an assembly which comes with the RPS.  Went from a $40 repair to $270 repair.

@lou123 I just read something about this exact same thing - I didn't know there are two different length RPS/Hall sensors on the LG's

Here's the quote that might help you not have to purchase a new stator just to get the correct RPS.

RPS!!  Buy 1 of each for stock.  part # 2001 and 2002.  Letter doesn't matter, at least not yet. The length of the plastic brackets are the only difference between 2001 and 2002.

Just saw this.  The #2001 definitely looks like the one I needed.  Great info to know going forward.  LG tech support was not any help.  Luckily I ran into an appliance repair guy (ex LG tech) where I purchased and then returned the incorrect short RPS.  He had one at his place and was able to sell it to me.  Saved me a lot of money and headaches.  Just goes to show there are still good guys out there.  This forum has saved me a lot of time and money over the years.  I appreciate all of you!

The RPS sensors have part numbers printed on them.  I trust that part number before I trust the lookup.  Many LG lookups will show RPS not sold seperately, must buy stator.  Yet you take it apart and it's replaceable every time.

My comment above with 2002a vs. 2002b, take it with a grain of salt. I've had a few where lookup calls for 2002b but on removal I find 2002a, so i fix with 2002a.  I haven't actually seen a 2002b sensor in the flesh yet,  it's still possible that there is a physical difference where it will be one way compatible but not two-way

When you remove the old sensor, let us know what number is printed on there

I don't think it a difference between the A and B version there are two different part numbers both with an A and B version sub.

6501KW2002A or B
and
6501KW2001A or B

yes. I made it more confusing than it should have been

2001 and 2002 are different lengths, not interchangeable.

the A and B is new to me, I've only come across a couple of these but I don't think the A or B makes any difference. I have used A to fix B.

They are interchangeable with each other between the A and B version of the same part number.
