Samsung WF42H5000AW Will Not Drain or Spin

Recommended Posts

Samsung  WF42H5000AW. Stopped mid-cycle on a load of towels, and reset the timer back to the original amount of time. Thought it might be overloaded, took out half the towels (dripping wet), and set the machine for spin only, but no go. Removed all the towels and checked the coin filter and it was clear. I unplugged the machine for about 20 minutes and tried again. You can hear the pump run, but there is no water going into the drain. The pump will run for about a minute, stop, then come back on for a few seconds, then repeat that process. The drum does not turn at all. I am wondering if the impeller has gone bad on the pump? The machine is not setting any error codes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The most common scenario is that the pump has gone bad.  Once in a while you'll find something got lodged somewhere in the drain.   Last week I had this one with a toy plastic coin stuck perfectly at the rear of the pump housing (rare)

If the pump housing is clear, and the end of the drain hose is clear, confirm that the washer fills water but then cannot drain it, I would replace pump.

I can confirm the drain hose is clear, water does come in but doesn't drain. I'm pulling the pump today to check if it's plugged. I ordered a cheapo pump from Amazon last night that will be here tomorrow. If that fixes the problem, I'll order the OEM pump. If not, I'm only out $19.

The new pump did not fix the problem. I should have checked the other cycles yesterday. After installing the new pump, I tried a rinse and spin cycle (with spin only selected) and it did the same as yesterday. So I tried a wash cycle. Intermittent pump noise but no drain sound. No load weight indication and no water coming in. The only other thing I can think of would be the control board?

do you mean water is not filling?

can you fill a bucket of water and fill the machine and test drain

No. Now the machine is stuck on a Quick Wash cycle. No matter what button you push, it just beeps once. Turning the knob to select a different cycle does nothing, it stays on Quick Wash. Again, no error codes.

You cannot put it in quick wash. It is stuck on Regular wash. No response on the buttons or the dial, except when you push a button you get one beep.

Turned out to be the inverter board. Go figure.

Actually, changing out the inverter board only let it power on. Could never find out why it wasn't starting. It now belongs to Home Depot. I have a new LG top loader and Imma happy.
