Topload Maytag Centennial spin cycle issue

Washing Machine: Maytag Centennial topload - 8.5 years old

Hey all,

I appreciate anyone’s insight into what’s going on with our washer and what part may need to be replaced.

For the last several weeks when spin cycle runs it has sounded as if the load is not balanced right and there was a clanging/banging noise.

Today spin cycle is not engaging. There is a whirring sound as it try’s to start up but won’t take. I lifted it up and there was grease dripping from it. I’ve included a picture of the grease and a video of it trying to start. Again, thank you for any help.

Bad transmission, with the age on the washer you will probably want to put your money towards a new washer

I agree with @evaappliance that transmission is shot. Take the money and put it towards a new unit !

Model#: MVWC415EW0

I wanted to add that I’ve researched a bit further. I started a cycle and the motor appears to be working fine. From some google searches it appears that it may be the basket hub.

Sure enough I bought a new basket hub for $17 and replaced it and it’s running fine now.

Glad this resolved it for the time being as reviews on washers now a days seem pretty horrible after the new regulations put in place.

Keep shopping and researching on a new one cause it’s not going to last long
