MDB8751BWQ dishwasher new pump gasket has flaky white substance

Yep, first time I'll be replacing a dishwasher pump assembly gasket. I received the new part 12002361 in a sealed "Whirlpool Corporation" plastic bag that also says "made in US 11/07/22."

This gasket is partly covered in a white substance that is flaking off inside the bag (please see attached photo).

Is something wrong with it?

My guess is it has something to do with making the rubber.  They add a white powder when vulcanizing; I suspect that is it and everything is fine.

I should add you probably should wash it with dish soap and dry thoroughly before installing.  There may be some sort of lubricant suggested, I don't know. I think if I was doing it I would consider a thin coating of plumbing grease which is availbe at home depot near the PVC glue and such.
