Kenmore Elite He5T washer - F70, door locked, now won't power on

Sorry I can't post the exact model but I can't get the door open.

She's been a great washer but this maybe the end. She's around 20 years old but tonight I had a failure and I can't get the door open.

We started a load and I went to pull it out and found it stopped with an F70 code. The door was locked and no buttons would do anything. I unplugged it for a few minutes then plugged it back in and let it sit. After a few minutes I tried to hit the power button, it beeps but does nothing. Nothing lights up or displays, but the the power button will beep every time I push it.

I need to figure out how to get the door open so I can at least get the clothes out of it.

any other suggestions also appreciated.

Thank you!

Clay

From Google's so-called AI Search results. But first I want to let everyone know, as of today no computer has ever had an original thought or a thought whatsoever. It's all programmed by people. Computers can only do what people can do, but often computers can do it tens of thousands of times faster.

kenmore elite he3t washer door won't open

Here are some things you can try if your Kenmore Elite HE3T washer door won't open:

Unplug the washer

Unplug the washer and wait a few minutes. Most doors will open once the power is off and the temperature cools off.

Manually unlock the door

To do this, unplug the washer and remove the bottom front service panel. Then, remove the three screws along the bottom of the lower front panel. Pull down on the small plastic pull tab attached to the bottom of the door lock assembly.

Reset the washer

Unplug the washer, pull it out from behind the cabinet or under the cabinet, and press the power button for 10 seconds. Then, press the pause button for 10 seconds. Plug the washer back in.

Try these other things

Gently knock on the handle

Press the pause/start button

Loop fishing line around the locked door and pull away from the door

Gently strike the door to activate the lock

quick update - Model 110.47088600

I unplugged the motor control unit and it made no difference. Still get a beep but nothing powers on.

I removed the trim ring around the door hoping to find a way to get the door open but no luck. So then I reached up inside through the bottom panel and found "something" in the right area, pulled it and the door unlatched!! So that part is done. The clothes inside were "wet" damp, heavy but not dripping, so it had gone through some kind of spin before it quit.

I'm hesitant to really put much into this one as old as it is but it has been a great washer.

I'm heading to bed but any suggestions on what to check would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Disclaimer: I'm just a DIY person.  Proper diagnosis requires specific troubleshooting.  I'd prefer to be able to replicate the issue to verify a part is broken but sometimes problems are intermittent.

With 20 years on a front load washer I'd say fix it if you're willing. Everything else sucks unless you get a fully manual top load Speed Queen.

Maybe this will help.  I'm pretty sure this would be for your model but I'm not positive. It was bit sketchy to upload / paste this information, hopefully it displays properly for you.

Otherwise the part number for the lock assembly is WP8183270

Prices vary depending on where you buy it.

Thank you for the reply! Useful info that I'll keep for future reference!

As a follow up I was never able to replicate the first issue. That night once i got the door open I unplugged the washer and left it over night.  The next day on my lunch I took the top of and disconnected/ reconnected every plug I could find then plugged it back into the wall and let it sit for 30 minutes.  Came back to it and hit the power button and it all works now.  We've ran a few cycles through it with no issues so for now I'm back in business.  I really think the issue is my daughter over loaded the washer and in the final spin it shook something loose or just lost its mind.

Funny you mentioned Speed Queen because I was going to start looking into what's available for replacement and that was at the top of my list.

Thanks!

Yeah it may take a long time for it to happen again or never.

I have a search alert for Speed Queen on Marketplace.  That's how I found out second machine for $100 with a SQ dryer as well.
