Kenmore Sears top load washer 110 20912991

The washer wants to do a second rinse whether the rinse selection is set to single or double rinse. Even if I pull the wire harness off the rinse switch, it wants to still do a second rinse cycle. I tried a multimeter across the rinse switch tabs with the harness disconnected, no beep on single rinse and beep on second rinse.

Does this suggest the wash timer switch is faulty, or could it be that little circuit board? I am stumped. Please help, as I am not in a position to afford a new washer.

I will try to post photos. Timer part # 3953248 as written on it.

Thanks

Did you resolve this?  I don't want to chime in if it's done already.

Hello Dr. H

Thanks for the reply. I am in Canada, so that may be a Canadian version of Kenmore(Whirlpool). That said, I am not sure if this is a solution or not, but it is back working correctly far as we know for now. I decided to pull the timer right out of the console of the washer. I slid open the side covers thinking I could get into the contact points to give them a rub with a fine abrasive paper. The points are so far in and unreachable without total disassembly...out of my pay grade. LOL. Put it back in, though it had been sprayed with electronic contact cleaner earlier, as well as the first/second rinse switch. We watched it and it worked correctly.... and hope it continues to do so. I had just put a new transmission in this machine about 18 months ago and the machine is in good shape.... not a rust bucket for its' age.

Your help is appreciated, and if you have any suggestions for further care/maintenance, I am all ears.

Thanks

Ron

Good to hear it's back to running.  Good experience doing what you did. I think it's a fair guess that the electronics cleaner helped. Filing the points is a fair idea as well.

If it's a non-electronic washer you're good to repair it for the next 50 years rather than enter into a contract with the new appliance cabal. Speed Queen Top Load Non-electronic is something to keep an eye out for at a good price. Search Facebook Marketplace and it'll never forget you and eventually you'll find one.

I don't know what could have been happening beyond your initial guesses which led you to do what you did.
