Partially thawed food in freezer, defrost thermostat already replaced

model # 253.5466440A   Side by side fridge/freezer, manufactured by Sears

Some of the food in the freezer partially thaws, seemingly during defrost cycle. Seems to be functioning normally otherwise. Replaced the defrost thermostat, no change. Seems like defrost heater may be running for too long.

Heat exchangers are all clean/clear of ice, fans are all working, last reading was -40 after having turned the freezer near max cold, fridge was reading just over freezing at 75% max cold.

I am at a loss... Please help.
