Hi again guys.  Our washer has developed a leak.  I have the front panel off and as near as I can tell it is coming from up near the top rear of the tub.   Very hard to see up there even with a mirror.  Looking at the parts diagram it looks like it could be the "flood head gasket" ?  Part number 851 in the attached picture.   If this is a common failure I will order the part and have it on hand so I only have to take it apart once :)

Any thoughts ?

Bill

That part having water around it means you may have a pressure switch issue. Pull the hose and blow through it towards the washer tub. Also check and see if there's any build up in the air dome inlet where the pressure switch hose enters. You washer is most likely filling up too much.

I suppose that would be possible but the washer is not filling up anywhere near that point.  The water apparently is pumped up through that tube to the "shower head" that puts the water into the tub ?  The new part is suppose to be here tomorrow so as long as it gets here early enough Ill get it taken apart and find out for sure.

I just want to add that after doing more research it looks like I am wrong as far as the function of the flood tube.  But it is definitely leaking from up above, not out of the tube bottom.  You can see the drops running down the side of the tub.    I will double check the pressure switch tube and report back, probably later this weekend or maybe even Monday.

Nathaniel,

I just went out and ran a small load with the front off.  The pressure switch hose is perfectly clean and the tub only filled up about 8" or so.  When it starts agitating there is still a small drip from up near where the flood tube goes in but I cant see it good enough to be certain.  Like you said there really should not be any water in that area.  I will wait until the gasket gets here and then take it apart.  I will let you know what I find at that point :)

Update,

Finally go this thing apart over the weekend.  The source of the leak was the water temperature sensor that goes into the "shower" where the water is dumped into the tub.  It was dripping don the back edge of the outer tub and running around and down the side.  It has a small silicon gasket that is not available.   The shower itself had become "distorted" also.  I got a new shower from Amazon on Sunday and put it all back together with a liberal application of rtv sealant around the gasket and sensor.  I let it sit almost 6 hours before running it so the rtv could cure.

All appears to be good now :)
