Resolving odor issue in Samsung RT46K6000WW fridge after meat spillage

Recommended Posts

I have a Samsung RT46K6000WW fridge. I was out of town for a week and because of an issue, my apartment didn’t have electricity for several days while I was gone. Because of this, the frozen food in the freezer (including meats) melted, and some of it spilled over the bottom insulation styrofoam (see pictures).

I cleaned it as much as I could, kept the fridge doors open for a few days, and tried putting activated carbon in the freezer, but it still smells horribly. Is there anything I can do to fix this? One person on the internet was recommending pouring vinegar water through the insulation (1 part vinegar, 1 part water). Does that make sense? Would it help?

@vee8power I can't see what you shared. Maybe links are automatically removed?

The link works for me. It's a link to a product called Kleen-air.

@vee8power You mean the Supco product right? I'm not able to see a link at all in your reply, it's just blank after "

I've had good luck with this stuff:".

old school thing that works most of the time once your sure all the oder causing stuff is cleaned up thoroughly,  is to take a copy of your local newspaper ,separate each sheet and roll each one into a loose ball,  place randomly thru the freezer and refrigerator , leave for 24 hours  take them out and do it again with a fresh newspaper .   immediately take the old newspaper outside to the trash .     give it a try     there is something about the paper that newspapers use other paper doesn't work as well.    refrigerator needs to be running when / if you try this

@evaappliance Thanks I'll, try that.

My main concern is, the juices from the meat seeped into the styrofoam insulation and it seems it's not really possible to get it off completely. I'm wondering if this would cause any health concerns, even if I clean the parts that are reachable.
