Whirlpool "in-door ice" icemakers

I've worked on a few of the Whirlpool side by side refrigerators with in door ice. The ones I've worked on all had a tech sheet that explained how to run diagnostics on the icemaker and board. However, I ran into one this morning (sorry, I don't have the model # with me) that didn't have a way to put it into diagnostics.

After opening the freezer door, the light on the receiver board does nothing, even after manually moving the flap on the emitter board. I couldn't even jump-start the icemaker.

After unplugging the ref. and plugging it back in, the receiver board would blink three times then nothing. Now the icemaker will cycle. I manually cycled it a few times, then it quit again. So I unplugged the ref. Plugged it back up, and the same thing happened. Cycled it a few more times.

I figure the emittor/receiver boards are bad, but just wanted to get another opinion from someone who has worked on more of these than me.

The last time I plugged it in, I couldn't get the icemaker to start up again. So I just left it like it was, and I'm contemplating ordering the emittor/receiver boards.

The ref. I was working on had the original design board (prior to 2002). With the repair manual (which I had on the van but didn't think about looking at it!) I was able to enter the diagnostic mode.
