I own a GE bottom-freezer refrigerator with ice maker and water dispenser GFE26JYM. The house will be empty for 6 months and the water filter cartridge will go out of date (6 month timer). Can you advise me on the best thing to do proactively to avoid problems when I return? Can I simply leave it as is, running, and plan to replace the filter when I return? Should I replace the filter now instead? Should I turn off the ice maker or flush the water line? Thank you for your help.

to prepare your GE fridge for a six-month absence:

Replace the water filter when you return.

Turn off the ice maker.

Flush the water line after your return to ensure fresh water.

Optionally, empty the fridge and turn it off to prevent odors.

this will help to keep things running when you get back
