GE Spectr, Mod#JBP30W0B2WW, On Fire During Self-Clean

On a personal note.

I just tried the self-clean on the oven for the first time and could literally see a fairly substantial fire going on through the glass of the door. I did not think that was correct so I cut the program off after 25 minutes.

The fire burned itself out and after the oven cooled down I could unlock the door and look inside where I discovered what appeared to be a pool of charred grease.

3 questions:

1. If a fire occurs in the oven, can it spread or should I have let the program continue and burn off all the grease?

2. If you need to clean the grease off before starting self-clean, what is the best product to use and are there any products you should not use because they will no longer allow self-cleaning?

3. Is there anything detrimental about killing the program (i.e. turning the knob for self-clean off) only 20 minutes into the 4:20 minute program?

Thanks

Steve

Unlikely it could spread but it could sure make a helluva mess in your oven. I think you were correct to stop it provided you didn't bypass any of the door lock controls (doesn't sound like you did).

Just scrap off visible grease puddles to minimize the fuel for any such fires during self clean.

Not if the controls weren't bypassed during this process.
