i have the magic chef as it states on the attached label in the lower pull out and the modle is 3868XVA-X  and the controller works but the display is getting dim. my guess is a component on the board. i see a jumper wire looks like it has been a bit to warm at one time and a diode looks like it may be either burned out or getting there

the part number per the appliance parts sites is 12001603  but that part shows a rocker type touch to control the temp and clock settings and mine has a knob that i turn. that may make no difference.

anyway i'm trying to locate a spare or maybe even find a schematic for this unit.

has anyone had this issue and managed to repair it? i can attempt repair it with a schematic but i would like to have a spare to install as i try the repairs just in case that repair was to fail.

maybe there is a appliance person here that does parts from known good older units. i hate to wait until the controller fails completely and then can't locate the controller and have to get a new range when this range works perfectly now but for a oven controller that the display is getting dim.

in the photos you see the center time photo the left digit is brighter than the sections to the right. it use to be all that bright. and the oven temp is set and you can just about see that. i do not recall how bright it use to be as i do not use the oven much but if the time is getting dimmer my guess that same control for the brightness is making the red oven temp dimmer. the wife did say it is not as bright and getting harder to see.   the far right photo was from a few years ago when i took these photos for another part an whily i had the top off i too the oven control out and took photos to have them for a base. thanks

ok i missed the photo with the oven turn on. in this photo it looks like they are bright but they are not if you look at the photo above with all the time digits on they use to be as bright a the far left sections. in this photo they look bright and the oven temps look bright but i can just about see them the camera makes them look great.

notice the wire that looks like it got hot at one time it does say speaker my guess is that is the beeper that you can just about hear nowadays also that diode could be for that beeper also but something is causing the display to be getting dimmer. and these components are all i have to go on now. and the diode that looks like it has or is burning out. i can put any diode in there but getting one that is correct or a bit larger will be best

I'm seeing the control is part #12001255.

The schematic is on the parts manual for this one. It's very simple; it doesn't show component level on the board; appliance schematics never do.

ok thanks that may be why i'm having a time finding one. i will search for that number then. the parts online using the range model number tell me it is the number i posted. but that sounds like a mistake. and i do not have the parts manual for this range it was not in the package when i got the house 27 years ago.

so how did you fine that part number by the way did i miss it on that control. or maybe your years of doing this? thanks

12001255 Oven Control Board Repair

@corvairbob Dim displays is usually dried out/weak capacitors or the display itself.

They haven't made the turn knob style for these for a long time already - if you can find a replacement it will have the touch pad buttons for temp/time up/down.

I come up with original part# for ERC(Electronic Range Control) as 7601P229-60 which subs to: 12001603 which is No Longer Available.

Your original part# will be on a sticker on the edge of the control board, (if it hasn't fell off).

Part# 7601P229-60 shows a RFR (Return For Repair).

Part# 12001603 Also No Longer Available (RFR - CoreCentric Solutions)
Part Replaces:
12001265, 12001306, 12001307, 12001457, 12001458, 12001602, 74001282, 74001318, 74001550, 7601P236-60, 7601P23660, 74002096, 74002097, 74002098, 74001319, 7601P237-60, 7601P23760, 7601P304-60, 7601P30460, 74005995, 7601P229-60, 7601P22960, 7601P234-60, 7601P23460, 74002219, 74002220, 74002221, 74002729, 74002730, 74003172, 74001402, 74001677, 12001604, 1200255

thanks i have located one on ebay. i did get one already from ebay but the beeper was missing and the caps were gone. one was pushed out at the top and one had black coming out the pins. and it had no display. so that is going back.

i have a handle on another unit from ebay so we will see how that one works. they are getting real hard to come by for sure.   mine has a burned out diode and next to that diode the buss wire is turning black. so my guess is something on the board is failing and starting to pull a load and took the diode out and turning that buss wire dark. that buss says spkr  so it may be for the beeper and that is why the beeper hardly makes a sound.   if i find another one on ebay i will grab it for a spare. the range still works perfectly. thanks 20240208_113903.thumb.jpg.beadd2db13bfba5aa7d52c228788ec7a.jpg

ok i got a ebay used control and plugged it in one wire at a time and it allowed me to set the time but i get an f3 error and the control beeps.  i looked it up and it said the temp probe is bad but it still works on the old control. so might i need to either do some calibration on the new used controller or rearrange the oven temp t/s .  providing this unit i just got is a direct replacement for the one in the range now?  thanks

this is the photo of how the t/s wires are going to the original control.

2nd one it the original control numbers

and the 3rd is the used unit i got from ebay they say was tested

ok guys i may have this figured out. as i was inspecting the used control board i happen to notice the t/s and oven switch wire pins J1 wobbled some so i pulled the cover back a bit see photo and i saw the solder joints were not connected. that will do it. anyway the seller gave me permission to try and repair those before just sending it back. so i resoldered them and it did allow me to set the oven temps. and i was able to do a calibration. this one was off by +45 deg. now that may be the t/s as i had to offset the original control by -35 deg also, but as long as that t/s is still reading it will stay.

you may be able to see the connections here and see the solder joints are not really connected. we will be using the oven today and the wife will be able to tell if the temp seems to be close. by how it cooks for her.
