Don't know what's going on.. If my LG dryer is off, or on but not running, and I open the door, the drum light comes on. If I push the door switch in and out the light goes off and on like normal. But, if it is running/drying, and I open the door, the drum does not stop rotating and the light does not come on. So is the switch bad even though it sometimes works? Or something more sinister? What's happening?

Help.

@BillHammer No, your door switch is most likely OK - it sounds like the motor relay contact points are welding together on the main control board.

Also, my Mrs. who uses the dryer says she never opens the door mid-cycle, she just uses the pause button on the control panel - and that works fine, stops the drum and turns the light on. It also always stops fine automatically at the end of the cycle. Does that matter?

If not, how hard to change the control board? Do you have a video? And can you give me a link to the part?

One more - I'm an electrical engineer, have replaced relays on boards before. Can I just do that? Do you have the part and some documentation? Would save me a lot of $$

@BillHammer Doesn't sound like it's the relay on the board then, unless it's sticking intermittently.

Replacing relays on the board is not a factory way to do it so there isn't any info on that, you would have to source the correct relay - also LG and Samsung boards are usually sealed in potting epoxy which makes it pretty hard to do board level work.

Ok, this is very repeatable, so prob not intermittent. So if not relay on the board, am I back to the door switch?

Replaced the door switch, didn't fix the problem. Drum still turns and light stays off if I open the door mid-cycle. So, do I have to replace the  main controller board?
