Kenmore 106.51143 111 - Freezer Not Cold Enough

Recommended Posts

The freezer in my Kenmore 106.51143 will not get below 15 degrees.  The refrigerator temperature is fine.  The freezer temperature is set as low as it will go.  Both the compressor and the evaporator fans are working.  The evaporator coils are not frozen.  They only have a thin frost layer at the very bottom.   I have cleaned the condenser coils with compressed air, which made no difference.  Any ideas?

Sounds like you might have the start of a sealed system problem, (low on refrigerant).

You should have a nice frost over the complete evaporator coil, not just the first few passes starting from where the small capillary tube enters the evaporator.

Got it.  That's what I was afraid of.  It did seem unusual for there not to be a frost layer.  Would that be a costly repair?
