Installing ice maker LK75C, looking for holes

I'm new to working on fridges, but have reviewed the manual, online instructions, and videos, and feel pretty comfortable with installing an ice maker in my LG top freezer.

  • Refrigerator LRTLS2403S
  • Ice Maker LK75C

I can see where the holes are for the side mounting screws in the freezer inner wall. The holes are covered by the inner wall of the freezer, but are visible as depressions in the wall.

I want to make sure it's safe to drill those open for the mounting screws. I asked LG about it, and they said "Drilling on the holes are possible but it is not advisable to be done by the customer. It will be best to be done by a technician."

Is that the best answer? What would I need to know to do it myself safely?

Thnks in advance.

May not even need to drill - see if you can get the screw to bite into the plastic and just screw it in.  If that doesn't work just use a small size drill that is much small then the screw to just break through the plastic, (the plastic liner is really thin and it won't take much - just use enough pressure on the drill to break through the plastic liner and don't go any deeper).
