Whirpool washing machine making very loud roaring noise during the spin cycle

Recommended Posts

My whirlpool washing machine is 25 years old and is making very loud roaring noise during the spin cycle. I changed the agitator dogs but that didn't help.

I was told that the issue is most probably the transmission é bearing assembly. I open the machine as shown in the picture and not sure what to do now and what could be the problem and what I should change. If anyone has any suggestions or videos for fixing this type of machine, I appreciate your help sharing.

Thanks for your help!

Check the motor coupling, sandwiched between the motor and the transmission.

Gearcase is probably shot I would replace that and do the clutch and coupler at the same time

Was the tub nut easy to remove? I don't ever remember this model making a roaring noise unless that was loose or the transmission was completely shot which is unusual, although the neutral drain usually doesn't work after so many years and COULD be the roaring noise.

Otherwise check the coupler as mentioned,  clutch , spin tube, seals. Likely rust in the spin tube and every nook and cranny from the black rubber water seals failing and letting water by into the moving metal parts. That will make a grinding noise turning by hand usually.
