Refrigerator - GE Profile Model# PFSS6PKWBSS not making ice

To start with; THANK YOU for this amazing community of thrifty (wife defines me as "cheap") and persevering (kids say "hard head") folks who love their 20+ year old appliances as much as I do!

My refrigerator HAS to make ice for the dozens of iced coffees, teas, lemon waters etc for the family and the dogs...thanks for listening...so the story is the ice maker is a thru the door version and it has been making less and less ice over several months until now. It doesn't make any ice. I have replaced the water filter but I don't know how the ice maker gizmo works. Some of the plastic parts are chipped at the back inner portion of the drive? piece but other wise I'm not sure what to do. I have in the past had to remove the drawer and let big chunks of ice melt from it in the sink, and use a hair dryer to remove ice from the section the drawer slides into...probably caused by family (or dogs?) leaving the door open for indeterminate amounts of time (overnight?) All help is appreciated.

Knowing this was a Samsung built model I'd be tempted to say you need to replace the ice maker, but that particular ice maker was actually quite reliable.

All of those symptoms put together sound like a bit of water is getting through the water valve when it's supposed to be closed.  A slow drip could cause the ice buildup in the bucket, slowly freeze up the water line causing reduced ice production (has the cube size also reduced?), and eventually freeze up completely halting production.

Not a guarantee,  but worth a look.  If you look at the back of the fridge where the water lines enter at the top right of the fridge,  the one for the ice maker should have a plastic ring you can press in on firmly so you can pull the water line out to see if it's frozen (assuming based on common Samsung models, I haven't worked on this specific fridge lately and can't recall if it's the same)
