Whirlpool side by side dispensing issues

Good evening,

Ready to pull my hair out on this one.

Model: wrs588fihz00

5 years old or so

Any direction would be appreciated.

Problem: when dispensing either ice or water, dispenser will run for about 1.5 seconds and then stop. Sometimes, it will then turn back on after a second and sort of stutters on and off.

I don’t see any line kinks
I checked the inlet valve for continuity and all good there

The craziest thing, after I unplug it for 10-15 minutes then plug it back in… it works fine for about 5 minutes and then goes back to its old ways.

It has always made ice just fine.

works fine in diag mode
using “measured fill” works fine

Thanks for reading and any direction you can give.

Sounds like a weak connection.  I'd disassemble the dispenser assembly and disconnect/reconnect all connections you see, and make sure there's no damage to the parts that physically press the microswitch as well.  If you have a multimeter, I'd also check the microswitch itself to ensure there is strong continuity (less than 1 ohm) when the button is pressed. Definitely check the wire harness going from the door to the fridge body (it will probably be under the bottom hinge for a side by side), they're known for breaking because they fatigue over time with the door movement.

Also worth checking the valve assembly for damaged wires or loose connections but that's less of a concern since it works properly from the on board tools

Thanks for the direction. I’ll tackle these steps this week!

@fridgeproblemguy I’m having the same issue. Were you ever able to figure this one out?
