I have a GE gas dryer (purchased 2013) that wouldn't start. There was a hum when the start button is depressed, but the unit didn't run. I disassembled the unit, and replaced the thermostat since I was told that was the moat likely culprit. I cleaned and reassembled the unit, leaving the top panel off, and tried again. I got the same result, no spin. However, I find if press the start and manually rotate the drum for a moment, it will then run normally.

Any suggestions would be very welcomed, I'm a retired Army vet and relatively handy, I simply can't afford to replace this unit right now.  Many thanks

If it will take off when you manually turn the drum then sounds like a bad/weak motor.
