36” built-in fridge. How the heck do I get the water inlet valve out for replacement? Water dispenser inop. Bad solenoid is the culprit (I believe) but the solenoid valve itself is buried. Any tips or advice much appreciated!

Most refrigerators like yours will have two valves one out back and another inside the refrigerator by the tank. follow the water into the machine and take everything out and get to the panels in back

I have had two different KitchenAid models that are built in that I had to change out the water valve. It required the unit to be removed from the cabinetry. I then put an appliance dolly on the refrigerator with a strap, and then another person lifted the refrigerator with the appliance dolly, so I could change out the valve underneath.

If you're doing this by yourself, you might be able to remove the refrigerator from the cabinetry and then raise the legs to give you a little more access underneath.

If you cannot work with the space that you have, then you have to raise the fridge to make the space.   However most are done with the fridge sitting in place. KitchenAid (WP) didn't make this easy for neither the technician nor the customer.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to replace the valve but am still only getting the water dispenser to work intermittently. I’ve also replaced the pad actuator on the door. Now thinking it could be the dispenser control board??? anyone?

I was gonna say, most common on these is pad.   Water pad goes bad,  never the ice pad.  Did you use new OEM parts? Swap the wires from ice to water pads,   press ice pad to make sure water is dispensing every time.....

check the refrigerator temperature

Temp won't have anything to do with water dispensing - if everything is working correctly with the water dispenser in ANY refrigerator you can plug it in and hook up the water supply and it will dispense water immediately.  It won't care that the water is warm.

Now - Too cold and you could have a problem with the water tank being frozen if that was the direction you were going towards with check the refrig temp.
