How do I access the drain filter on a Maytag MHW5630HW3 washer

Hey! It has been a while since I have visited this site. I'm so glad it's still here.

A few months ago, we bought this Maytag MHW5630HW3 frontload washer. My son apparently left a bunch of leaves in his pocket when he ran some clothes through the washer. And now it's not draining well. I would like to pop in there and clear out the drain, but I'm a flummoxed about how to access it. According to Youtube, similar-looking models require you to remove the back panel and open the drain which is facing the starboard side of the case. But that's not how this one is built. From the back, there doesn't seem to be a visible spot to open the filter.

I have attached a photo of the view from the back.

It doesn't look like there is an easy way to remove the front of the machine. Do i go in from underneath?

Tilt it back and go in from the bottom.

  1. Open top cover/panel (2 or 3 screws from top-rear side)
  2. Disassemble the user interface assembly.
  3. Open the door and unscrew 2 screws of the lid switch assembly.
  4. Take out washer Bellow Clamp (For rubber boot seal on front panel )
  5. Disconnect the bellow/rubber boot seal from the front panel.
  6. Take out all screws that hold the front panel assembly. Check if there are any screws on the bottom of the front panel.
  7. Once the front panel is taken out you can get easy access to the drain pump.
  8. Take out the drain pump filter and check inside. Also get some rags or a shop vac to clean the water on the floor when you open filter.
  9. Open clamp #3 and take out the #2 hose if you find something stuck inside that hose.
  10. Once cleaned install everything back.

Check the attached pictures.

Thanks for this tip. I found some youtube tutorials that showed how to do this. Wow, they made if very hard to do regular service. I guess they gotta keep that Maytag Man employed!
