2nd Hand Maytag Wall Oven Overheating?

Go to solution Solved by Robert Adams,

OK I picked up a used wall oven at a thrift store the other day.  It looks clean and straight enough but I decided to remove the back panel for a look as I had sprinkled some saw dust down it.  I found what is seen in these pictures.  I'm no appliance man and I'm wondering if it looks as if too much heat is leaking from the oven or if perhaps they ran it through the self clean cycle and some crud got charred and leaked back.  Just curious and I wouldn't mind knowing of any precautions I might take before firing this thing up.  I'm not keen on the idea of self cleaning and would never use the feature myself.

Thanks for any help.

That is normal to be seen on any oven - the heat escapes around any of the openings where the void in insulation is, (around the elements ends and light socket).
