Timer working. Set to desired setting and push start button on gives click. No start. Could this be the thermal fuse?

Most probably. But you'll need to verify and the best way to do that is with a multimeter. If it has no continuity then it's bad and I would suggest replacing the operating thermostat as well since that is probably worn and starting to open at higher and higher temps. Additionally, check your venting for restrictions or blockages as this will also cause the thermal fuse to fail.
