Whirlpool Gas Dryer Model WGD4815EW2 (2019) no heat/spin action, just noise

Is this worth fixing? Dryer only makes a "whrrring" noise (as if it's working normally) but does not spin or generate heat, no matter what setting I put it in. Appreciate any help.

The attachment is just a sound recording of the sound it makes. Hopefully, it'll help in diagnosing the issue.

Sounds like the motor is running. Is the drum turning? Open the door, hold the door switch closed and start the dryer. The drum should be turning. If not, mostly likely cause would be a broken belt (#341241) or the belt idler popped out of position, or the belt drive pulley broke or came off of the motor shaft. Easy fix and certainly worth repairing if that's all it is.

This may not be the exact dryer but it comes apart the same way.

Hi Brian. Thanks so much for the reply. Yes, the drum does not turn (I did as you instructed). I will open up the dryer and check on the belt and/or belt mechanism. Hopefully, it'll be one of these - the easiest one preferred 😆 - and I'll clean as well while I'm there. I'll keep you posted. ~Joey

Hi Brian. Just wanted to give an update. I replaced the belt (it had already snapped) and the dryer is working as it should. Very simple procedure putting in the new belt. Glad that's all it was. I actually had more trouble putting the front panel back in those little hooks and aligning the drum to the door at the same time. :D Thanks again for all the help! Truly appreciated! ps. And yes, I didn't forget to clean up inside the dryer. :)

Yeah, getting those lower clips to line up and engage while keeping the drum in place can be fun if you've never done it before. Once you do it a couple hundred more times it gets easier. 😆!!

Glad you got it going. Good for another 3000 miles!
