MHW8200FC0 Maytag Front Load Washer - Drain pump problems?

Recommended Posts

Posted

The washer has not been draining properly. No error messages. I have checked the hose and it appears to be hung properly per the manual. I took off the front panel and opened the drain filter and it was full of smelly water, but there was nothing really there to clog it up. I pulled the end of the drain hose off the filter and that is clear as well. So I am guessing the pump has failed?

It looks like an easy replacement - remove hose and clamp, three bolts, unplug wire harness? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

One more thought. When I took the hose off, I stuck my finger up the end to see if there was something stuck in there and I noticed there is a simple flapper check-valve that would prevent water in the hose from coming back down into the filter barrel area after the pump shuts off. I presume the check valve is there to prevent this. It is possible that the check valve / flapper thingie isn’t working right and so it always flows back into the washer?

You can connect 120VAC directly to the pump with separate power cord to check working condition of pump.
