Several possibilities:

1. Your installation technique is stressing the coupler, making it more susceptible to premature failure.

2. There's something horribly wrong with your transmission causing it to lock up and subsequently break the coupler.

3. You simply need to use the new steel-lined coupler.  Pegi posted a part number for this coupler somewhere.  I'll try to find it and post it here.

New part # for the coupler is 285753A.........which part is breaking the rubber, or one of the white pieces?

thank you so for the info.

the white part is always breaking. i installed this parts numerous times and it usually last more than a year or so until they call me again. i understand this is a wear and tear part of the washer, but its not suppose to break so soon. i ran a appliance repair business for about two and half years now. i know i'm still in the amature stage but for a simple problem like this sometimes it drives me nuts and since i garantee my work i keep going back on this unit and keep changing coupling.. whew..good thing i found this site and it was a blessing ever since. mucho domo, i will look into the new coupling part number and i'll send u feedback. thanks again.

Most customers will never tell you the truth but I would ask just for the sake of it how much of a load they do at a time (probably everything they have) anywho make sure that you just take the coupler flush to the ends of the motor and tranny anything past this will put a strain on the coupler and put all the pressure on the ends tabs..how are you installing the coupler on the shafts? I use a deep wall 5/8 socket and tap them on evenly so as to not stress them or crack em

As the boss said with this much of a failure rate I would start to question the tranny also check the brake assembly to make sure it dis-engaging properly..........good  luck...........check back....

Ps.you are using OEM couplers aren't ya..............those aftermarket ones are junk

My friend Poobah is right as always, they last a month or two at most.....would suggest to warm them up before installing but do not believe would have this problem in Hawaii... ;)

If they're really getting them from Marcone they should be factory Whirlpool parts.
