Door handle feels loose & not engaging! Is there another way of opening the door?

Are you saying the door is stuck closed but feels loose?  This this diagram of the door latch and associated parts may help you figger out a work-around.

The door is shut tight. The plastic handle (#9 ?) is totally loose. If I can get the machine out from under the counter....is there a way to get the latch to release?

Or is brute force the only recourse?!! And is the cost of the replacement parts worth it on a 8- or 9-year-old machine?

Pull the dishwasher out and remove the two screws holding the door latch (see diagram).

Thanks....I will try that later. It's been a bad week. Am waiting for the HVAC repair man to fix Lennox heat pump....not evan one year old. This is the third call. AC in car is intermittent, after being repaired after an accident. Car is 8 months old!!!

I got the door open. Do you have pics or more detailed diagrams of the door handle assembly. The activator handle (#9) is broken. Can't go get part....still waiting for HVAC guy. Pics or clearer diagram would help in reassembly & determining what other parts I need. While I wait I'll go fish out broken parts from inside door.

P.S. I'm amazed that such a flimsy handle even lasted 8 years!!! Something that gets handled (pardon pun) everyday should be made more sturdy!!

Here's a picture of the replacement door handle.  The first diagram I linked you to should be all you need-- it's just fitting the parts together the way it looks.  Here's another diagram but I'm not sure it's any better.

Thanks. I was just printing out a pic of the door latch lever, which is also broken, from the Repairclinic site. Still waiting for the HVAC guy!!!

Is the manual & diagrams for this model available on the X-drive? If so in which folder? I couldn't find it when I looked a couple of months ago!

I couldn't find the Job Aid for this dishwasher at the Whirlpool site and I don't recall uploading one to the Xdrive.  OTOH, this is not a complicated repair-- once you get the replacement pieces, it's just a matter of dinking with it until to figger out how they go together.
