A/C Unit makes high-pitch noise after compressor stops running

Intermittently the A/C unit makes hight pitch noise.  This happens after the house's temperature's reached set cold limit and the thermostat shuts down the compressor.  Anyone's experienced this problem?

Note:  The A/C units works OK, even though the cold air coming out is not as cold as we'd like.  Could this be the problem with air inside the refrigerant?  My system is 12 years old.

The high pitched sound is the pressures of the refrigerant equalizing through the valves of your compressor in the off cycle.  This is not unusual.

The air not being as cold as you are used to or would like could be anyone of a host of problems that are best addressed with a service call as it requires specialized tools that the average person would not have.

In older units a muffler was installed to cut down on compressor noises like that, because back in the day, folks respected things like that. Now the new idea is, to hell with the owner, lets cool the house any old way it pleases us. I wish the good old days was back. All these inferior electronics that go out in a year or so is a sad realization that the world as we knew it has lost it's continuity.
