GE Home Combo Laundry Unit, Model# WSM2700WAWWW

HI,

I need to replace the dryer belt on a GE Combo Laundry unit, model #WSM2700WAWWW and I am unsure how to remove the front of the dryer.

I removed 4 screws at the top and am able to pull the front top away from the drum, but I don't think I can work a new belt around the drum without removing the bottom front.

The diagram appears to show 2 clips, one on either side, towards the bottom but I am not sure I want to pry the sides with a putty knife without knowing thats what should be done. ALso, I would think there might some screws at the bottom hidden behind the control panel but I cant release the top of the control panel.

Is anyone familiar with this unit, and if so, what is the best way to switch out the belt.

Thanks,

Steve

This unit was actually built by Frigidaire. Disconnect power. Start by removing the two visible screws that attach the panel just above the washer and below the control panel. The panel will come off if you lift it up and pull it out. You will then see the slots the bottom of the panel attaches to. Then remove the two outermost screws on each side of the bottom of the control panel (four total, two smaller black ones and two larger galvanized ones), no need to remove the other screws just inboard of these. Then remove the galvanized panel below the control panel and shove the control panel down and pull it forward to remove it as well. Don't bother to disconnect any wires, just lay it on top of the washer.

If it 's your first time, remove the four screws attaching the door hinges to the door frame and remove the door (it'll make it easier to handle.) Then undo the door switch harness plug, take out the two screws at the bottom of the door frame and since you have the top screws out already the whole door frame will pop off the clips you spoke of earlier with a good pull forward. You'll then see where the belt goes. If you want to inspect the idler and rear bearing (a good idea while you have it this far) you'll also need to remove the whole top panel to get the drum up enough to disengage the rear bearing and pull forward and out. Be sure to check the front bearing as well. Reassembly is the reverse, no special tricks.
