I have a Kenmore washer with a transmission leak, but I can't see how to open this machine up.  I was trying to get the control panel open to find the tech sheet and that has some magic button to push too.  I thought I seen it all, but I guess not!  I looked for info on my Xdrive, but didn't find anything.

I believe this is a Whirlpool machine, but is there someplace to look and see what brand Kenmore model numbers  really are?

Pegi: Thanks for your quick response!  That is my problem, the console doesn't have any end caps to remove where the two screws would be.  The console is a solid piece with no sign of any screws for access.  Is there any other method of accessing the console?

Let me pull up the breakdown to see what style you have, stand or sit by...;)

Ok you have the clips in the front corners, have to slide something in and release these clips ref. # 8 in this breakdown, one on each side..

Thank You!

I got that bad boy apart. Thank you very much!  Now,  I have a seal thrust plug ( part # 285352)  that is leaking.  Repair Clinic calls it an oil seal kit for gearcase input shaft.  I have never pulled a transmission apart, and it looks like I can take the bottom of the transmission off and replace this from the bottom without removing the transmission, or do I have to pull that transmission right out and then take it apart from the top down?  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I didn't see any part# for gear oil, is there a particular brand to use?

Thanks,

Wan

There is your tranny oil, remove the agitator, pull the pump/motor off the tranny , remove three bolts and out it comes...easy....I have not taken one apart, have just replaced the transmissions so not sure what you are going to get into, others in here might be able to help with that part...

If it's just the input shaft seal that's leaking you don't have to take the transmission apart to replace it.

Just pull the pump and motor and coupling half off transmission. Remove the motor mounting plate. Now you will have access to remove the seal with an actual seal remover tool or make do with puncturing the metal part of the seal with a screwdriver and carefully prying it out. Then install the new seal.

If the transmission is still quite when it runs and there isn't a lot of oil on the floor, you shouldn't have to worry about opening the transmission to add oil.

What does the seal remover tool look like, and can I get one from Repair Clinic?
