Jennair Cooktop, Model#CVE3400B

I am looking at a Jenn-Air glass cook top, model #CVE3400B with the following problem. All burners appear to be operating correctly, but the hot surface indicator light is not working.

I have two questions:

1. While it could just be a burnt out light, I believe there must be some sort of sensor attached to this light. Unfortunately, the wiring diagram is missing and I don't see this part listed on the Sears web site. How does this light work?

2. How do you access the light? Does the whole cook top need to be lifted out of the counter or can the glass be removed from the top while leaving the burner box in place?

Thanks,

Steve

On each element is a limiter.  The limiter must close 1B - 2B in order to send L1 to your hot surface indicator lights.  This unit has a few schematics floating around out there.  The one I show has 4 individual lights, one for each burner.  I doubt all 4 are out if this is matching to your model.  The indicator lights are the only thing on this unit that uses neutral (unless you have a DD fan).  You might of lost the neutral to the unit or had it burn off from a loose connection.  Do you have a meter and the knowledge to do a check or two to incoming voltages if needed?

Thanks for the response.

This particular cook top appeared to have a separate light for each switch and an additional light at the top right indicating a hot surface. So, it doesn't sound like it matches up to yours.

If I open up the cook top, where should I look to measure voltage?

Also, any thoughts on opening this one up?

Are you sure about the model number?  The one schematic I found shows 4 hot surface lights, and 4 on indicator lights.  If there is a schematic, it is taped in a plastic holder someplace underneath the unit or on one of the sides.  Looking at the unit on-line, you will have to pull it out to get the top off.  Usually a dozen or so screws that are hidden now that it is installed that can only be accessed by pulling the unit.  Usually going around the top assembly about 1" down from the top.
