Has anybody had a problem where the water in the dishwasher won't drain completely during it's drain cycle?  I removed the drain assy. and cleaned the check valve, but it still drains very little during the drain cycle.  But, if I press the clear/drain button during the wash cycle it goes into a 2 minute drain cycle and drains completely.

How did you confirm that the d/w is not draining all the way?

Posted

check where drain hose enters sink drain and anywhere the drain hose might have a coupler

also could the customer be complaining the d/w isn't draining simply cause dishes are wet after dry cycle? maybe the jet dry dispensor has an issue?

The dishwasher has a 15 minute rinse & hold cycle on it, and after running that cycle water remains in the bottom sump.  I also sat there and watched the dishwasher go through the wash cycle and listened for cycles to end and when it appears to be to  draining for approximately 1 minute, and the drain line is hot, and I can hear gargling noise coming from the drains, but when I open the door and check the water level is same .  The wash cycle is very long, so I never waited for a complete wash cycle from start to finish.  I'm taking her word that there is water sitting in the bottom after an entire wash cycle is completed

I have an older dishwasher and I know when each cycle ends.  I hear it drain and then I hear it fill again.  I have the old dial on it, so I can watch what part of the cycle it's on and it has a few second pause between each cycle it goes through.

Should the dishwasher drain completely between the wash and rinse cycle and then start to fill again? (Something that I can actually hear happening)  Or, does it drain and fill that quick on the newer models?

The dishes are coming out all spotted (like it's a jet dry issue) and she said that she fills it on a regular basis.  Is there something that can be repaired regarding the jet dry portion of a dishwasher?  I guess I really don't know how the jet dry works.

Thanks, Wan

Dishwasher should drain completely between cycles. Check all hose connections and Sublime Master BrntToast suggested. Also, tear down into the sump and look for debris. I've seen coins down there causing this kind of problem; during pumpout, they can intermittently stand up on their edge, blocking the flow and then lay back down. Other gookus can cause this, too.

I thought that I would let you know that I found a small piece of white porcelain in the bottom of the sump.  I removed it and it still didn't drain.  I replaced the backflow preventer and it drained properly.

I also found a Service Pointer from Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid regarding an incomplete drain for Models GU1200XT, GU1500XT, and GU2300XT.  Stating, that the check valve can be swollen or deformed, causing it to stick in the pump housing and not allow the wash chamber to drain.

Thanks for your help.  This site rocks!
