Dear Enlightened one(s),

I have a GE VL12J2G-RW fridge and the evaporator fan keeps freezing even though the defrost circuit /timer is working and the drain in not clogged.

Any input is appreciated, before I take my kitana out of my tool box and fall on it.

Sincerely,

Appliance Grasshopper

Check model # . Cannot find anything under that #.

Is the condensate drain plugged? Any problems with excessive moisture or water in the freezer? A pic or two of the weirdness in there would help us visualize whirled peas. :rooster:

Most Sincerest apologies (yes I can't read my own hand writing) the problem cropped up again and the make and model is GE VL12JZG-RW I'll try and post a picture also.

The drain plug seems to be okay, its just that what looks like is happening is that the fan is behind the heating element and the drain hole is behind the fan. The  net effect seems to be that the when the water comes from the heating element area it either doesn't drain completely, or that a small layer of water remains and over time this builds up to jam up the fan. Fan is iced to the point of stalling about every 3 days.

Hmm, still not pulling up anything with that model number. Is this a US model? Are you reading the model number right off the manufacturer's tag on the refrigerator? Post a picture of it.

there is a second drain hole under the heater(directly under the heater)

that hole is plugged if water is making it to the hole by the fan

the drain line has a p-trap in it, remove the p-trap from the back of the fridge an wash her out well

last, if the styro foam over the heater and under the fan is soggy(saturated with water) at all, you will have fan freezing problems
