Kenmore HE3 Dryer - Elec

Did my diagnostics and it showed the door switch in my 5 year old HE3 (mod: 82822100) was not working. Not sure how to physically access the door switch to ensure connections are tight, and to replace switch. I can see where the wires run into the "door" but can't see how to get at them at the switch connection point.

double check your model #, there should be more #'s like a 615., 110. at the beginning

Here's the full #: Model 110-C82822100 Kenmore

It's a Canadian model number, that's why it's not showing up in the databases we use. But I'm pretty sure this is the Whirlpool Duet dryer. Here's the download link to the service manual, has illustrated teardown procedures:

That's the one. Connections seem tight. How do I test the existing switch with the controlls pulled apart?

disconnect the 2 door switch wires from the CCU and OHM them out. With the door shut it shoud read continuity.....door open should read nuttin ;)

OK. I am not totally clueless and you did sound like you were speaking a dialect I can almost understand but not quite.

You are dealing with a very handy gal here with some electrical experience beyond my curling iron. Could you put that in really idiot proof english?

Thanks

look on your diagram and find the door switch

find the 2 wires that go from the door switch to the computer board (CCU)

unplug those 2 wires (usually a connector)

get out your old faithful OHM meter / continuity tester and read the to wires

if the door is shut you should get a reading, if the door is open you should not get a reading

I just loves me a handy gal !!! ;)

nyttja, this is actually a little involved. To get to the door switch on this dryer, you'll need to remove the control console, which requires some attention to detail. If you're able to focus on a task, you can do this-- it's only two mugs on the world-famous SUDS-o-meter.

Look on page 4-4 of the service manual PDF-- it shows how to remove the console. Then go on to page 4-6 for the door switch.

Let me know if you run into any trouble; my apprentice, Rocko, doesn't like trouble.

Oh, I have already done all that. The door switch is out (thanks for the manual that helped a lot) and I have double checked the conncections on it. They were all tight.

What I am wondering is if I can double check that the switch is faulty without having to re-assemble the controls - they are carefully placed ontop of the drum right now with the top plate off. Or since the diagnostic showed the error message linked the the faulty door switch shall I just order a new part and install?

Ah, I understand your question now. Absotooly you can test the switch. You'll need to use a multimeter and test continuity with the switch actuated. If no continuity, the switch is bad. I have a page at my site that explains all this in detail but I'll have to post it later-- I'm pecking this in on my iPhone while away from the office. Will be in later and will post it then.

iPhone - oooh we don't have those up here yet.

I have a Sperry multi-tester (DM4100A) could you tell me what setting to use to test continuity (you are really earning your money with me I know). I am off to Home Depot for my usual rennovation run and can buy a cheapie if that is easier.

The page Pegi linked you to explains how to make simple electrical measurements. Here it is again:

I knowed you could do it! Nice work! :dude:

Was the door switch bad?

It was the door switch. I bought one at Sears (the store we bought the machine from) - they charged me $52 for it! Rip off. Next time I will order from you.

Thanks again and have a great holiday.
