Maytag Washer Model No. LAT9206BAM

I am having trouble removing the tub nut from this washer.  I have a spanner wrench and have hammered on it as hard as I can but the nut won't budge.  I am assuming it is a left hand threaded nut.  Somebody, please let me know if it is OK to apply heat to the nut and if I would harm something by doing so.  Thank you for your help.

Regards,

John

From the service manual:

Use spanner wrench to remove clamping nut. This is a left-hand thread so it must be turned clockwise.

A mallet will be required to loosen the nut. Use care when striking wrench to prevent chipping the tub.

And after you have got tired of beating on it and it still not loose, time for the chisel and a new stem seal kit.

Those nuts break off pretty easily with a chisel if you have to go that route.

The book says a mallet will be required to strike the wrench and loosen the nut.  Well a 2 lb ball peen mallet and copius amounts of Rust Buster and a severe beating of the wrench finally broke the nut loose.

lol, obviously the people that wrote the manual have never tried to remove one of those nuts cause a mallet aint gonna get it :D

Or maybe that manual was written back when none of those nuts had yet rusted stiff? Reminds me of the Ford Fiesta repair manual from 1985 that I once upon a time had to read... :D
