The parts illustration for this machince shows parts breakout #26 - retaining washer(center seal) and # 24 - retaining ring.  The washer slides over the transmission shaft and lays on top of the mounting stem and seal kit.  Where does the retaining ring go?  Are you supposed to press the washer down into the shaft seal far enough for the retaining ring to hold it in?  Please advise.  Thank you.  John

I have recently learned that the new mounting stem and seal kit, part # 22204012,  has a new seal and that the retaing washer (center seal) and retaing ring are no longer required.  This is parts breakout #26 and 24 respectfully.  John

10-4 on the change.  It took place in 1998 for production units.  The new style will fit the old, but if you have old ones laying around (like me STILL), they will not fit the new according to the factory.  The older style did seem to seal better against transmission pitted shafts.  This is when the shaft gets pitted and the washer will develop a slow leak down the center of the shaft and through the new seal kit.
