Unit had frozen veggies in fresh veggie drawer, but when I arrived fresh food side box temps had risen above 50f. and freezer back panel was well frosted...Ah ha!!  Defrost issue right,..Wrong!!! while pulling all the freek'n drawer pullls to access the back panel the heater came on and began defrosting the coils..Oh, O.K. must be that electronicly controlled cold air gate/damper thingy that allways breaks...Noo, after pulling it, I just happend to catch it in operation opening up fully..Fans are operating..  PCB? I've changed a few of those but bad ones i've found have obvious blown caps on them..no abvious damage to this one..I've read that the thermistors on these G.E.'s can be an issue, but I've never changed one.  I counted 3 of them..1 right side freezer panel and 2 left side fresh food box...I cant remember seeing  one on the evap coils but I'm pretty sure it has one there as well..found a temp/resistance chart for checking values, but how do you do that without cutting them out..seems to me if you have to cut them out to check you should just replace with new anyway.

There is a 4th thermistor on the evap coil primarily for the defrost cycle. All of the thermistors can be tested from the main control board in back by removing the connector and checking resistance. Also you can run this thru a diagnostic test from the touch controls in the fresh food section. I'll see what I can come up with to get you there.

Thank you hvacdrd,

I've seen that diag. sheet before but never could get it to print right..(my puter skills suck)..I've saved it to another folder and will atempt ajust for printable version.

You mentioned a diag. on the keypad itself..any help there?

Hold down the colder and warmer buttons on both sides at one time for 3-5 seconds...the numbers will then go to zero and flash (this is test mode)...using the colder and warmer buttons again make the display read 0 on the freezer and 7 on the fridge (thermistor test) then hit any button on the diplsy to start the test (I usually hit quick chill)...it will then start with #1 Fresh food  (show a P for pass and F for fail)...#2 fresh food  #3 custom cool #4 evaporator #5 freezer

to exit diagnostic mode set the numbers to 1 & 6 and hit any button again...hope this helps

Thanks Poobah,

Thats very helpful!!  Now can someone tell me which one is FF thermistor 1 and wich is FF thermistor 2... I'm assuming that #1 is the the one up top and #2 is the lower one. Is that right?
